Both of the loads shot on this date keyholed horribly. The 69 gr bullets were too much for the 1:14" twist to handle. Will load up some 52gr AMAXes and Matchkings and see how they shoot during the next decent range session.

More load testing, with two different match grade bullets, both 52 gr. The conditions were stable, with the temperature hovering @ 25.1 degrees F with gusty winds present. Both groups were fired @ 100 yds. Cold bore was not included in the measurement of second group. BC C.O.L. stands for the measurement taken with the Hornady Bullet Comparator caliper attachment. All the velocity measurements for this date are listed as shown in the manual, no actual chrony readings were taken.

Groups were not impressive. I will try lengthening the C.O.L., and loading a hotter charge under 52 gr. Speer HPs. |

| February 25, 2009 |
Continued load testing with 52 gr. Speer HPs and Varget. The conditions were optimum, with a very light to no breeze, and a temperature of 33.1 degrees F. All groups were fired @ 100 yds. Actual chronograph readings were taken, with ES standing for extreme spread. The only variation used between the three groups was overall length. The listed velocity for these charges was 3650 fps.

3-shot group @ 100 yds: 0.259" |
C.O.L. made a major impact on group sizes, it also made a difference in velocity, with longer C.O.L. producing higher velocities. 0.259" is a pretty dang good group, for a rifle that the throat is shot out in and only has a 10x Lyman Super Target Spot scope on it. I will continue to test, but everything will be based off of this load. This is not going to be a serious hunting rifle anyway, that's what my 22-250 Rem. is for lol.
Cold bore is about 0.5" to the right of group. A dime is used for reference. |
